Future Linux Projects
Richard Gooch
This page contains projects I'm interested in doing at some future
date (when I have the time). Maybe by the time I get around to doing
some of them, there will be good Open Source implementations. But if
there aren't, this is what I'll probably start working on.
-
A decent network filesystem. One which support disconnected operation
(i.e. automatic local caching with synchronisation upon reconnect) and
which doesn't have a large performance penalty.
-
A heirarchical storage filesystem. Here, infrequently used data is
automatically migrated from disc to archival media. Metadata
(filenames, file permissions, etc.) is still left on disc, to preserve
the illusion of all data being available. Access of the data results
in automatic retrieval from the archive.
